@a c:
For the first suggestion there's actually an open wish on bugs.kde.org. It's a fair suggestion, it's just that right now I'm lacking time to implement that. I'm hoping to be able to implement it in time for 4.4, but no guarantees. Patches are always welcome!

The second suggestion: that's intended behavior. You can disable the autohiding behavior in the system tray's settings under Auto Hide. In that case persistent notifications will stay on screen, non persistent notifications will still dissappear normally after their timeout.

Hello, I hope it's not too late to make a suggestion. I'm using KDE 4.3.2 and an auto-hiding panel.

First, all notifications pop up above the coordinate where the panel would be visible (when not hidden), which is annoying - afterall, that's why I have an auto-hiding panel, to make full use of screen space. All notifications should pop up above the panel, when it is visible and at the bottom of the screen, when the panel is hidden (it's a bottom margin panel).

Next, I desperately need some notifications to remain on the screen, independent of any timeout - in other words, truely persistent notifications.
Take Kopete for example. When a new conversation is started by somebody else and I am not paying attention to the screen during the notification display time, hours can pass before I realise there's some aggitation in the system tray (given the fact that the panel remains hidden).
Don't you think that persistent notifications should remain ON THE SCREEN at least when the panel is hidden? Since there is a grouping mechanism in place, I don't suppose it can endanger the screen space in the case of a prolonged user absence ;)

In KDE 3.5 persistent notifications where always staying on the screen until I took some action with respect to them.

Hi,

I have just tested the new notifications and jobs from KDE 4.3 and it is really nice. Much better than the previous version. Congratulations!! But I still have one bug left...

Sometimes a kopete event takes place and I'm notified - e.g. a message arrives. The notification appears fine to me but when I click in the "view" or "ignore" button, nothing happens and this notification stays there for good... there is no way to acknowledge this notification and it stays there in the queue until I logout.

Perhaps kopete is sending a buggy message anyway, but the notification area should be more robust and provide, for example, a way to clean the queue of events.

Thanks for your important efforts!

@jospoortvliet:
So, can I install plasma on Windows XP right now? I use VirtualBox on Linux, with Windows XP as guest OS. It would be pretty cool if I could control the host OS through the guest OS and vice versa using plasmoids!

Did anyone try something like that?

@ano: this IS crossplatform. You can run plasma on Windows, mac and on mobile phones, and everything works just the same. Of course binaries always have to be available locally, nothing can be done about that. But scripted plasmoids work anywhere.

I think thats what i meant, but I think what I was suggesting was like a category "Plasmoids with remote access - Enable/Disable" so there is one place you can see and manage all the remote access for all the running plasmoids

eg: so there is 1 place to see all plasmoids, currently running plasmoids and if remote plasmoid is enabled
list Plasmoids | Running plasmoids | Remote plasmoid Enable |
a                          a                             Yes
b                          b                              No
c                          c                              Yes
d
e

something along those lines, because I feel if there is 1-frontend to add plasmoid and remote access

I see a lot of useful things that could be done with this technology.

But what about sharing plasmoids cross platform? I mean, if there is a plasmoid to share files, that's all fine and dandy, but a lot of people are still users of Windows/MacOSX/Gnome and so on. Are there any ideas/plans to make this stuff cross desktop/cross platform compatible? (maybe a new freedesktop standard?)

rscheepmaker: Nah I already have it compiled, I was just worrying about all the other poor souls who might have to do it :-). But if it worked for you without a hitch then probably someone's gone in and done some maintenance (thanks, whoever it was, if that's the case). When I did it building with cmake didn't work, building with ./configure didn't really work either iirc, there were all kinds of problems with it looking for its own headers in the install prefix when they were not yet installed (it wasn't yet built!), which I managed to solve somehow, and manual copying of files had to be done, and things like that.

I will use this to control what my entertainments doing. ;-)

Only putting task list and now playing control on locked plasma activity, share every plasmids on this activity and disallow to unlock plasmoid(is there any way to do this?).
